Valeria Vercesi

 

Valeria Vercesi was born in Pavia, Italy, in 1983. She received the Master degree (cum laude) in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pavia, in February 2008 and the Ph.D degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pavia in December 2011 under the supervision of Prof. V. Annovazzi-Lodi, with a thesis entitled "Advanced schemes for optical chaotic cryptography".
In March 2008 she was the recipient of a scholarship from the European project PICASSO (Photonic Integrated Components Applied to Sicure chaoS encoded Optical communication systems) and was visiting fellow at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in the Optical Communications Lab. of Prof. D. Syvridis (partner in the PICASSO project).
From January to June 2011 she was visiting Ph.D. Student at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin (Germany) in the Photonic Component Dept. to study high-speed directly modulated integrated laser under the supervision of Dr. U. Troppenz.
In 2012 Valeria Vercesi joined the Digital and Microwave Photonics group led by Dr. A. Bogoni at the National Laboratory of Photonics Networks of CNIT in Pisa (Italy), to collaborate on the project "Architectures of Optical Networks and Nodes for high-capacity transmission and access-metro-core transport based on integrated photonic technologies - ARNO-T3”. Since November 2012 she kept on working with the group of A. Bogoni with a postdoctoral position at the Institute of Communication, Information and Perception Technologies (TeCIP) of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, within the framework of the project PIC (Photonic Integrated Circuit) funded by Regione Toscana.
Her research activity concerned optical communication and photonic devices, in particular, secure data transmission using chaotic semiconductor integrated/discrete lasers, all-optical signal processing using SOAs and characterization of integrated sources/modules. More recently she focused on microwave photonic, in particular, design and characterization of photonic integrated filters for RF applications.
